Maserati: the headquarters

Maserati's heart is firmly located in Modena, where it has its historic headquarters, where the cars in its range are developed and tested (Maserati Innovation Lab), and where the new super sports car is to be built. For Maserati, Modena is the place where it has an 80-year history of building extraordinary cars, all unmatched in their luxury, elegance, style, performance and quality, and sold in more than 70 markets.

Maserati and Modena share 81 years of history: following the acquisition of the Brand by the Orsi family, work to prepare the new Maserati headquarters got under way at the end of September 1939 with the construction of the production lines for the realisation of new models.

Maserati, founded in 1914 by Alfieri Maserati with his brothers Ettore and Ernesto, thus moved from Bologna (Pontevecchio) to Modena, where the Orsi family's businesses were based, to build new cars, invest in research and innovation and become Modena's most globally recognised Brand.

The production site on Viale Ciro Menotti, where the plant and Headquarters are still located, officially opened its doors on 1 January 1940.

Some of the most important and ground-breaking cars in automotive history were produced at the Viale Ciro Menotti plant, including the 250 F, an icon in the history of Formula 1, world champion in 1954 and 1957, and the Quattroporte, the first sedan to be fitted with a high-performance engine.

From 1939 to 2019, around 90,000 road cars and 420 racing cars were built, and today the plant is still the heart of the Brand’s operations, employing approximately 600 people.

Inside the gates of the Viale Ciro Menotti plant, the most recent part, built at the start of the new millennium, comprises the showroom, the offices and the employees’ car park, while the historic section, dating from the late 1930s, houses the production areas: the assembly lines, the testing area, the finishing shop, the Engine Lab and the Brand new paintshop, a completely fresh addition to the plant, with innovative, environment-friendly technologies.

In 2020 the Modena site becomes the heart of the Maserati new Era; as the location of the production line of the new Maserati MC20 super sports car, ambassador for the new phase in the history of the Brand, the state-of-the-art painting line, and the area dedicated to the development and assembly of the new Maserati Nettuno engine.
