DESCRIPTION
Maserati’s Gran Turismo tradition began in 1947, at the Geneva Motor Show, with the introduction of the A6 Gran Turismo styled by Pinin Farina. It was the first road going Maserati and 61 vehicles were produced. The car's technical features and original, cutting-edge style were enthusiastically received by the motoring press. The overhead cam engine had a sophisticated valve command system: it used rockers to actuate the valves and allowed for easy valve adjustments. The tubular chassis was innovative for its time with round section steel tubes. The interior was elegantly designed and finished: leather upholstery, comprehensive instruments plus some eccentric design touches like the clock, which was built into the glove box lid. The clutch and brake pedals featured the famous Maserati Trident logo. The A6 Gran Turismo was a genuinely revolutionary car. While a relatively small number were made, it marked the beginning of Maserati as a maker of bespoke, high-quality and sports-oriented road cars. The wonderful Pinin Farina body provided the inspiration for further generations of road cars; and it was such an elegant, timeless design that its echoes can still be seen in the latest Maserati cars.
